Bridging The Gap
"Our mission is to bridge the gap for hardworking families who earn too much to qualify for public assistance but still struggle to afford essential services like quality childcare. We are committed to empowering these in-between families by providing equitable access to resources that support stability, growth, and long-term success."
Established in 2024, Ammas Academy was inspired by the need of free to low-cost quality childcare for struggling families that do not qualify for state subsidized childcare assistance.
"Our vision is a future where no hardworking family is left behind due to income gaps. We are dedicated to supporting families and partnering with independent organizations to bridge the divide between poverty and middle class—ensuring access to quality childcare, essential resources, and sustainable opportunities that build stronger, more resilient communities."
At Amma's Academy Inc., we are committed to fostering a diverse, equitable, and inclusive environment where all individuals—regardless of race, ethnicity, gender, sexual orientation, socioeconomic status, religion, language, ability, or family structure—feel valued, respected, and supported.
We recognize that families navigating the space between poverty and middle class often face unique systemic barriers. Our policies and programs are intentionally designed to address those disparities and promote fair access to resources, especially in early childhood education.
Our DEI commitments include:
We believe that advancing equity in early education is not only a moral imperative but also a pathway to stronger, more resilient communities. Our DEI policy informs all aspects of our operations—from hiring and staff training to program design and community engagement.
The Early Educational Financial Support Program provides critical assistance to families who fall between the thresholds of poverty and middle class—those who often earn too much to qualify for government aid but still struggle to afford quality early childhood education. Our program bridges this gap by offering need-based financial support that reduces the cost of childcare and preschool services. By investing in these families, we ensure that children have access to enriching, developmentally appropriate learning environments during their most formative years. This initiative not only supports working parents but also strengthens communities by promoting school readiness, equity, and long-term educational success.
Our program is dedicated to providing children ages 6 to 12 years and their families with essential youth mental health resources, materials, workshops, and presentations. Amma's Peaceful Pathways will offer resources including information on free or low-cost mental health care, assessments, workshops, training, and presentations led by state-certified youth mental health therapists.
Amma's Academy holds the conviction that nurturing the skills of young people is essential for an all-encompassing approach to curbing youth violence. A lack of advanced skills in communication, problem-solving, conflict resolution, empathy, impulse control, and emotional regulation among the youth may escalate the likelihood of violent behavior. Fostering these vital life skills enables young individuals to become more self-aware, interpret social cues correctly, steer clear of perilous situations and behaviors, and settle disputes nonviolently.

Inspired by personal challenges, Monique Wimberly founded Amma's Academy. She stepped in to care for her grandchildren, enabling her daughter to work and support the family after being ineligible for state-subsidized childcare assistance due to income limits. Yet, the cost of childcare, at $420 weekly ($1,680 monthly), remained unaffordable. Amma's Academy Incorporated was established to assist such families in need. Monique, an Indiana University alumna with a Bachelor of Science in Labor Studies since 2015, earned her Child Development Associate certification on May 7, 2023, and holds a certification in Adult and Youth Mental Health First Aid from the National Council of Wellbeing.
